During the Japanese Occupation, basic resources were scarce. However, site such as these gave people hope through their religious faith. The temples also did what they could by offering what they had, namely shelter in the temple grounds, medicine and expertise as devotees would volunteer to help, and distribution of resources. This gave the local population hope in these trying times and brought people of different backgrounds together.
